Choosing a Van Configuration for a Mobile Oil Change Business

Not long ago, someone who was entering the mobile oil change business had contacted me because they were wondering what type of van to buy as a service vehicle to service their clientele. I told them it depends, which is probably not the answer they were looking for, however it is the truth. They then told me that they were interested in servicing fleets of vehicles, and only occasionally would they do personal cars. In this case, there was a specific van that would work very good for this.
I would recommend for servicing fleet customers that a mobile oil change operator by the top-of-the-line Ford van with the extra useful load weight package, and ambulance suspension. Then I would recommend that they tow a box trailer behind them for used oil storage tanks, filters, mats, ladders, and creepers, etc.

Now then, if they were going to just do BMWs in people's driveways, they might get a smaller Van, or even a little Ford Transit Van. This makes a very nice vehicle because it, is very small and easy to get around, it fits in tight parking lots, and you can double park the car you are servicing in a parking lot, or parking structure without taking up too much space. And it will indeed fit into most all parking structures.
It also gets very good fuel economy, and there is adequate room for signage to promote your business. So you see, the type of van you buy very much depends on your market mix, and which market segment you will be targeting, whether it will be fleets of vehicles, or mostly personal cars that you will be servicing. I hope this information helps you when you decide which of van configuration to get for your mobile oil change business. Please consider all this.
